Amid bustle, help others - politics

Black Friday will begin even before Thanksgiving Day is over, and right behind it are Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. The average shopper spent $423 on Black Friday in 2012. This season, I encourage everyone to focus on a new day: Giving Tuesday. Dec. 3 is a date to show how Americans can do much more with their wallets than just consume. Giving Tuesday is a national movement to celebrate the power of giving back to our communities through a contribution rather than a purchase. Families are hurting. Our more fortunate citizens need to increase their philanthropy to make up for the decrease in federal and state aid. The most meaningful gift we can give to our loved ones is a better community. We all benefit when our neediest members are adequately employed, fed and housed and have access to medical care. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" I can't think of a good reason why you shouldn't contribute generously on Giving Tuesday.

Obamacare: The Health Care Plan Run By Idiots For Idiots - politics

The most outrageous lie, endlessly repeated for four years, was President Obama's promise that "if you like your insurance, you will be able to keep it, period." This was stated frequently by the president as an absolute — without qualification — before and after the 2012 U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold the law. Engaging in cascading revisionism, now the president adds what he repeatedly neglected to mention before: "Now, if you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law and you really like that plan, what we said was you could keep it, if it hasn't changed since the law was passed." The president's new rhetoric neglects to mention that most of those "grandfathered" plans will change, as insurers reorganize to bring their plans in compliance with the current law. No matter, President Obama has judged for you: "If you lose your insurance, you will get something better." The fact is, the president lied, period.

We Are All Catholic Now - politics

I assume Obama supporters believe, as we are repeatedly told, that he is intelligent; the smartest person in the room some have said. He's fair, inclusive, caring, persistent, honest, on his game. He has an innate ability to choose a competent team. He's so smart he doesn't need to read daily intelligence briefings. He has coolness, patience and charisma. A Harvard professor, no less. Given these core competencies, why did he let his signature legislation, ObamaCare, fail so miserably? Fail so bad he has taken to hiding performance metrics from people and Congress. All he had to do is make a website that displayed prices and collected identifying information, not actually administer the insurance. Even a moderately-sized eCommerce site can do that and they cost tens of thousands of dollars, not the $1 billion that we now know the ObamaCare web site cost — as much as the new Giants Stadium. How could he fail so miserably given his supposed outstanding qualifications? Just call me master of the obvious …

If Americans really DIDN'T want socialized healthcare, they would have elected Romney.
