I find it interesting to hear and read the leftist morons in the US screaming and crying about voter ID laws. They claim that such laws are racist and are somehow an attempt to prevent poor people, seniors, and minorities from voting. It's all a big conspiracy to them. They claim such actions (especially if they are enacted in a Southern state) amount to bringing back "Jim Crow" laws (funny, those laws were created by Democrats).
Here's examples some of the left's panic and paranoia:
The law's main effect, and chief partisan political purpose, is that it will likely disenfranchise many Democratic-leaning voters -- mainly seniors, minorities and lower-income citizens -- who simply have never obtained a qualified photo-ID document, such as a photo-driver's license or passport, because they have never needed to get one...But if they fail to get a bona fide voter ID card before the next election, the law, akin a poll tax, will disenfranchise them. If they go to the polls without a qualified photo-ID, their old standby voter registration card, even if their signature matches the one on that card and on the precinct match list, won't be good enough to let them cast a ballot. http://timesfreepress.com/news/2011/aug ... card-scam/
“Some compare these laws to Jim Crow laws, which did what they did through technicalities,” Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.)
The suit, filed against Wisconsin by the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, charges that a voter ID law passed there in May and set to take effect for the state’s February primaries violates the Constitution and amounts to a poll tax. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1211/70400.html
Voting rights are “under attack… [by] a deliberate and systematic attempt to prevent millions of elderly voters, young voters, students, [and] minority and low-income voters from exercising their constitutional right to engage in the democratic process.” Congressman John Lewis
Even the Attorney General, Eric Holder is abusing the power of the Justice Dept to go after these states that DARE to attempt to verify the identity of a person voting for state and federal officials including the President.
So I started to think that if voter ID requirements are racist, why aren't these liberals screaming racism about all of the other things that require a photo ID? Here's a list of a few things I came up with that all require a person to have a photo ID:
-Driving a car
-Buying tobacco (Joe the Camel and the Malboro Man must be racists!)
-Buying alcohol (yep, minorities can't drink because no ID)
-Using any type of credit or debit card
-Writing or cashing a check
-Going to the bank for any type of transaction (other than ATM)
-Air travel
-Buying spray paints
-Buying Drano (yep, if you're a minority or poor your sinks will be forever clogged because it's racist)
-Getting any prescription medication (Pharmacies are also racist, so you might as well just die)
-Getting many over-the-counter drugs like cold/cough medicine
-Get medical care (again, these racist policies just want poor minorities to dia apparently)
-Picking up packages at the post office or getting a P.O. Box
-Adopt a pet (that's right, poor minorities can't get puppies or kittens because it's an evil racist plot)
-Receive a marriage license
-Apply for a loan for anything
-Rent a place to live
-Rent furniture from Rent-to-Own (that's okay since the racist landlords won't rent them a place to live anyway)
-Get a job
-Get into many government buildings (including welfare offices)
-Buying a firearm (apparently, the 2nd Amendment doesn't include minorities)
-Getting a hunting or fishing license
-Serving on jury duty
-Sales tax exemption for people aged 80 and above
-Apply for Social Security benefits
-Selling scrap copper
-Getting back into the US from Canada or Mexico
-Picking up a computer from the Best Buy's Geek Squad
I'm sure I've missed some activities on this list but I think my point is clear. ALLof the things above require photo ID. Some are from civilian sources but many come from the govt either directly or through the laws they have enacted. Many elderly, poor and minority people engage in multiple activities on this list. None of these items have been pointed out by the Attorney General as being discriminatory or as an attempt to suppress the activities of poor minorities.
Therefore, it leads to only one logical conclusion regarding all the screaming and crying over the states' voter ID laws:
Democrats want to block them to ensure their illegal tactics to steal elections are protected. That is truly the truth behind all their BS. Remember, the phrase "vote early and vote often" comes from Chicago politics (like President Obama).
The voter ID laws merely show the polling employees that you are who you say you are, nothing more. They do not discriminate against ore prevent any legitimate voter from participating in their right to vote.
They do prevent the Democrats from getting their usual support from some of their key constituencies like illegal immigrants, dead voters, cartoon characters, etc.
Now that is the truth about the left's objection to Republicans who want to ensure fair and honest elections are conducted.
