We Waste Too Much Money On Public Schools.

Public education+pop culture=morons.

I was reading an interview of System of a Down frontman Serj Tankianin in Guitar World magazine and sure enough he is a moron.

There's a lot of private education already, so to a certain point that works, but I don't think they should privatize all public education. They should put more money into it so that we're not number 30 on the educational scale on the planet. You know?

To be fair to Serj many people parrot this line...hell, many think that teachers should be mentioned in the same breath as cops and firemen!

So let’s have some fun…

Anyone know how the US' public education compares to say, ummm, Canada's?

Warning…it’s a loaded question.

Compares how? Amount of tax dollars spent? Adult literacy rate? Efficiency of service? % of students finishing highschool? % of highschool students who get into college/university?

There's a lot of things to compare KAL, which would you like to discuss?

Sounds to me like you already have those numbers handy. Why don't you just post them, and we'll take it from there.

Where's the fun in doing it that way???

I have more fun telling people that if you found some certified genius to teach every 16 kids in NY Public Schools...paid that person 300K a year and gave each kid 100 bucks a day to buy lunch it would be CHEAPER than what we are doing.

Just out of curiosity, do you think Canadians receive a better education than Americans?

If you indulge me...without looking it up, just off of what you know as of the moment you read this...does our constitution acknowledge our right to privacy?

A certified genius wouldn't take 300k a year. that would be an insult. Hell the MacArthur Foundation gives you more that 300k for just being a certified genius.

There's more to it than just being certified. They also pay it out over 5 years...I'm offering 1.5 million in the same time frame! All for 3.5 hours a day, 182 days a year...or $470.96 per hour!

Keep in mind, I'm proposing to save us tax payers some money here!

Isn't there an amendment that protects your rights against unreasonable searches?

Depends on which schools you're talking about. Some American schools are really good, others not so much. Same thing with Canadian schools. There's some really good ones, there's others that aren't.

Congrats! I have met 1 HS grad that knew that answer....just freakin 1 in my life. A guy I knew since he was born joined the Army and is in Intelligence, does interrogations, was in Afghanistan. I spoke with him before he was deployed and he was like "Did you know we don't have a right to privacy?"....I said I knew...he said he learned that in training....I said I learned that when I read the constitution...and we NEVER read it in any public school I attended...neither did he.

And mind you, we didn't go to "bad schools" out in the sticks... we both attended school in Brooklyn NY.

You don't need to know our constitution as much as we should all know it....but yet you knew the answer....so far your educational system is better.

Who do you think spends more on education per student? Canada or the USA?
